Book Blast!! Darkness & Light by J.A. Belfield

Forest fog

Today marks the RE-release of J.A. Belfield's Darkness & Light, first book in the Holloway Pack series.  I'm super excited for J., as I am a big fan of the Holloway Boys!

And to celebrate it's release, as well as her birthday (which is also TODAY) there's a GREAT giveaway going on, including a paperback copy of The Fallen from yours truly.

But first, let's check out the book.

Darkness & Light

Jem Stonehouse, a housewife with a neurotic husband bent on keeping her in line, dreams about werewolves in, what she believes, is a bid to escape boredom.

Sean Holloway is a werewolf, living a charade within the human race, whose mind drifts to a bond he shares with a woman he hasn't met — at least, not in this lifetime.

Apart, the two are safe but live unfulfilled lives.

Together, they'll become prey to rival packs just as they have been for hundreds of years.

When their worlds collide, and not for the first time, instinct takes over. Dreams become reality. Futures are uncertain. To keep history from repeating itself, Sean must teach Jem about his heritage, convince her of her role, and win her love.

Can Jem accept her destiny before it's too late, or is her inner wolf buried too deep to save her future with Sean?

You can add it to your Goodreads by clicking on the cover art above.

J.A. BelfieldJ.A. Belfield lives in Solihull, England, with the best husband in the world, aka Mr B, a couple of back-chatting but pretty cool kids, a pooch she treats likes the baby of the house, and a couple of scrawny cats that like to vomit in unnecessary places.

Although best known for her Holloway Pack series: DARKNESS & LIGHT (July 2011, J. Taylor Publishing/September 2014, J.A. Belfield), INSTINCT (February 2012, J. Taylor Publishing), ETERNAL (July 2012, J. Taylor Publishing), BLUE MOON (December 2012, J. Taylor Publishing), RESONANCE (April 2013, J. Taylor Publishing), CAGED (August 2013, J. Taylor Publishing), and UNNATURAL (April 2014, J. Ricochet Cover Reveal Sign Ups!

The cover for Ricochet is designed and I'm drooling over it as I type this (it's my screen saver while I write the book).  I'm DYING to show this baby off!  The blurb is finished too, thanks to my brilliant writer bud and editor, Julie Belfield. I'm looking at SEPTEMBER 12TH for the cover reveal, so if you are a blogger fill out the form below or if you're a reader who follows a particular blog that you love, give me a heads up in the comments and I'll contact the blogger to see if they'd like to participate!

As I've mentioned before, this is NOT a paranormal romance.  Ricochet will be my first standalone contemporary, so I'll be looking for blogs that post contemporary, or PNR bloggers who cross over.

I've already given the street team a lil sneak peek at the cover and the response has been very favorable!  In fact, my fellow droolers gave a thumbs up on both the cover AND the blurb.

I'm already about 12K into this novel and the ideas are coming FAST.  I'll admit, I've teared up a few times while writing it.  RICOCHET will also be set in Detroit and have the dark, gritty feel of my paranormal novels, but with humans.  Lol   Not as dark as The Fallen, but definitely not a light a fluffy read.

Updates for Soul Enslaved and Ricochet!

Quick update … Gotta make this short and sweet, because this is my LAST day to finish my read through of Gavin’s book!

Soul Enslaved gets shipped off for its VERY first beta read tomorrow!  Holy hell, I’m excited and sick to my stomach at the same time.  Thought this one would be much smaller than the others, but is anyone opposed to 500 pages of Gavin???

Anyone???

There will NOT be the usual month-long blog tour for the release of Soul Enslaved!  I’ve got something much more fun planned PLUS some cool prizes to give away too!  Stay tuned for more details.  The release date is slated for November 6th, so mark your calendars!!  As I mentioned on my FB page, a percent of sales from my books will be donated to local Detroit charities during the release.

Sign up to my VIP Email list and you could win an ARC of Soul Enslaved BEFORE it releases!

What else is going on this week …

The cover design for Ricochet will soon be underway!  I’m so excited to show off the sexy face of my next project, which will also be set in Detroit.  I’ve been patiently waiting to start this baby and tomorrow I’ll begin writing it.  As I mentioned before, this is NOT paranormal romance.  It’s a standalone with HEA.  It’ll have that same dark, edgy tone but with humans instead of demons.  Lol

I’ve put together an inspiration board for the story on Pinterest, in case you’re curious.  Check it out here:  http://www.pinterest.com/kerilake/ricochet/

The playlist is growing too!

You can also add it to your Goodreads shelf:  https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22046049-ricochet

Okay, that’s all for now.  More news coming soon!

Sons of Wrath FAQ and updates!!

I’ve had questions come up after some have read The Fallen and I thought, since they seem to be similar, I’d just answer them here instead of private messages. Will there be more of Xander and Karinna (THE FALLEN)?

Originally I hadn’t planned to write much more—I was simply providing a character’s backstory.  As I’ve said before, I wrote this book at the request of a reader, after the Sons of Wrath books 1 and 2 were already out there.  This book tells the story of how Xander came to be Fallen. However, it seems readers have come to love Xander and Karinna more than I had anticipated!  Therefore, you will definitely see more of these two.

Even though I’m a cruel mistress and I LOVE to put my alphas through some hell, I think they all deserve a happy ending and Xander will get his … eventually.

Will this darker tone carry over to Soul Enslaved?

The Fallen is certainly not the darkest book out there, but it is the darkest thing I’ve ever written.  It deals with very disturbing themes of torture and rape—had me cringing as I wrote it so I’m certain readers had moments of wanting to scrub their eyeballs with bleach.  I’m always trying to push my writing to places that force me outside of my comfort zone.  It keeps it new and fresh for me.  Keeps me from getting bored. This book was an exploration into a very dark and twisted character that I introduced in Soul Resurrected (Xander).  I don’t think I’ll ever lose the darkness in my writing, but where horrific scenes were shown in The Fallen, I try to leave them up to the reader’s imagination in my other books (they tend to be implied).

Soul Enslaved will return to the usual banter and brotherhood that you’ve come to know in the series.  Gavin certainly likes his kink and you can expect to see lots of it in this book, but he’s not a sadist, so no mindfuckery or pain in this one.

When is the cover reveal for Soul Enslaved?

The cover is designed and is GORGEOUS.  I’m just finalizing the blurb at the moment.  Its never easy condensing an enormous book into 150-175 words, and this happens to be giving me hell.  I’ll plan the cover reveal for Tuesday, May 20th.

Mark your calendars!!

BLOGGERS!!

If you’d like to participate in the cover reveal, please sign up here:

ALSO … I’ll have limited edition prints, signed by the very sexy Daniel Sobieray to give away for the release of the book!

How is Soul Enslaved coming along?

Very well, actually!  I’m taking my time with this because this installment gives more insight into the overarching story that’s building in the background.  I’m widening the scope a bit and want to make sure there are no glaring plot holes as the main story continues to progress.  Each brother’s story plays a role in moving it along and the further into the series I go, the more obsessed I become with double-checking my world-building.

As for the love story in the thick of all this chaos … I’ll say this, it doesn’t happen often, but I’ve had a couple tearful moments while writing it.  Some scenes were harder to write than others.

I find when I write, there’s a particular song for each book, that, no matter what I’m doing just before I hit the keys, pulls me into the story immediately.  Sort of like a theme song that allows me to slip into the world.  For Soul Enslaved, it’s Always by Killswitch Engage.  The song came on the radio while I was driving the other day and reminded me of the heart-wrenching scene I have to write and my mind immediately went into daydream mode, imagining it as I battled 5 o’clock traffic.

I will continue to post updates on the story and let you know of a release date as it gets closer.

What is the deal with this new book, Ricochet?  It’s not a paranormal romance?

This will be its own separate post, so I won’t go into too much detail.

A while back, I had an idea for a contemporary romance, but never really pulled the trigger on writing it.  Well, it turns out, my head hasn’t forgotten about it, because a couple weeks ago I was slammed with the opening scene while driving an hour to a meeting.  It’s dark.  It’s gritty, but not as graphic as The Fallen and has NO paranormal elements in it.  So think of the Sons of Wrath world through the eyes of humans and you’ve got Ricochet.  This will be a standalone romance.

I’ll have more info about this one at a later date, but writing begins this summer, after I’ve handed off Soul Enslaved.

In the meantime, you can check out my inspiration board on Pinterest or add it to your Goodreads shelf!

Hey what’s going on with the Audiobook for Soul Avenged?

I actually listened to a few chapters this morning and it’s coming along!  I can’t yet say when it will be available but the first 14 chapters have been uploaded and they sound fantastic!  Jarman does such a nice job keeping all the voices with multiple characters distinct enough to keep track of who’s talking – it’s crazy!!  And I love his voice for Wade…wait til you hear it.  Haha!

Will let you know as it gets closer to completion.  Maybe I can post a little teaser at some point!

Lots of stuff coming your way so stay tuned for updates!

Blog Tour: Unnatural by J.A. Belfield

Earlier in the month, one of my favorite writer buds, J.A. Belfield, released the fourth book in her Holloway Pack series.  Now, for those of you who haven't heard of this series, let me tickle your mind for a moment... a houseful of alpha male hotness (*cough* Ethan) and breaking the rules to be with their mates. Um ... what's not to love??

So in this installment we have Kyle.  I was first introduced to him in Caged and although Ethan stole the show, Kyle held his own enough for me to take notice of the little side story going on with him and Brooke.  I'm pretty excited to read this one because J.A. Belfield doesn't disappoint and the reviews for Unnatural have been fantastic!

For the tour stop, I asked J to prepare her Top Ten Coolest Cats.  But before we get to that, let's check out this book:

Unnatural

Unnatural. One word to sum up werewolf Kyle Larsen—his mood swings, abnormal body, and choice of female.

The first two, he blames on the vampire venom.

The third, though? No, feline shifter Brook Nicholls was all his doing—a female of whom the pack will never approve.

As part of the Coalition, an organisation with even stricter rules than the pack and a rigidly warped sense of responsibility, Brook comes with a whole lot of opposition of her own.

No wonder the two of them keep their relationship secret for as long as they can.

Now, distanced from his family by his own indiscretions, Kyle’s left to fight battles he’s unsure how to win—some of them even against his own pack.

Is one woman really so important that he’s willing to defy his Alpha for her?

If his heart has any say in the matter, the answer will be yes.

And now for J.A Belfield's Top Ten Coolest Cats:

There are a lot of folk in this world—some real, some fictional—who I happen to consider pretty cool for one reason or another. When Keri suggested this post to me, I thought it sounded fairly easy. Coming to write it, however, and narrowing these down to just ten? Nah, not so easy at all.

However, after a lot of deliberating—with myself—I think I’ve managed a respectable list. Check it out.

Mr B

Yes, yes, I know very few of you guys actually know him, but he is and always will be my Number 1 Cool Cat, so I’m sticking him here right at the very top. He picks me up when I’m down, he makes me laugh when I frown, and he gets me out of the house whenever I’m at risk of turning into a hermit. Some days, he has been the reason I have found in within myself to write.

Will Smith

There’s this saying I have with my bestie, Carla, that goes along the lines of ‘Will Smith—he never disappoints’. I dunno what it is. It might be because I grew up with Fresh Prince of Bel Air. It might be that annoyingly cute and cheeky grin. Heck, it might even just be that voice—‘cause, ya know, I am female, after all (don’t tell Mr B I said that).

So, I’m branding Will as my Wild Card Cool Cat—because I dunno what it is about him, I just know that it is. ;)

Queen Elizabeth.

She’s a cool lady. Keeps calm in a crisis. Offers pearls of wisdom and inspiration. And on top of that, her presence and poise and manner in which she carries herself make me proud to be British.

Stephen King

I’ve never read a Stephen King novel. *ducks for cover*

With that admission, I guess you’re all wondering how he made it onto my list. Well, he’s on here for three reasons: 1) because he has held a high spot in the horror genre for a long time, and that can’t be an easy deal to achieve; 2) I read his On Writing. This was the first book on writing I’d ever read. It’s also the only one I’ve ever read. I learned more from this autobiography-style book than I could have learned from anywhere else, and he deserves kudos for that; 3) because he didn’t give up. Becoming initially successful as a horror writer wasn’t easy for him. He had his knockbacks. He had his kicks. But he didn’t give up. That makes him an inspiration. Because, no matter the odds, he followed his dream.

Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead

If ever there’s a zombie apocalypse? Dude, I wanna be on Darrel’s team. Ya know? Not only does he seem sure in the pointing of his weapon, he does what he does, whatever that happens to be at any given time, with a total ease. I wish I was as chilled as this guy.

Prince Harry

I love Harry. As a royal prince, there are certain standards one must adhere to … but good ole Harry has never been afraid to be himself. He’s never been afraid to follow his own path in life. His work alongside the armed forces, despite how much danger he’s in because, boy, he would be a MASSIVE bargaining chip for the ‘other side’, right? He still just does it. And I respect him for that.

Brigid Kemmerer

From one writer to another, I have so much respect for what this lady produces. Her writing is consistent, her characters deep and full of life, and her world building is pretty neat, too. But what I learn most from reading her books is the art of pacing. She has the most consistent pacing of any author I’ve read. Plus her YA Elementals series is awesome. You should read them, for realz.

Uncle Si

Yeah, *holds hands up* I’m a Duck Dynasty fan. And this dude makes me guffaw my freaking hide off. Anyone on TV who has the ability to make me and Mr B simultaneously laugh until our sides hurt deserves a cool cat medal, for sure.

Diana Spencer

I still remember her as Lady Diana Spencer, but to those not from the UK, you’ll more likely know her as Princess Diana. She acted out her royal duties with elegance and grace, whilst fighting to cling onto her own identity during her time at the palace. She was what I would refer to as one of life’s gems. A true lady. I believe her attitude to life contributed a great deal to Harry’s headstrong ways.

Man, and I never realised just how much respect I have for our royal family over here until three of them crept into this post. However, just as calm and graceful in what she does is my final cool cat …

Keri Lake

Yeah, I went there—though it had to be done. And not just because I’m here today, on her blog.

I’ve known Keri since before we were both published, when our writing was still pretty rough around the edges, and I’m glad this virtual relationship has bloomed from that. Not only are her story ideas so out there that they are freakily awesome, but bouncing ideas off her, and being a board for her bouncing, is almost like working with a reflection. For some reason, we seem to get where the other is coming from, and those kinds of relationships between writers don’t happen every day.

Here’s looking at you, chick. ;)

So, those are my Cool Cats—who’d make it onto your list?

Oh man ... I'm blushing behind my computer screen right now.  Thank you, J ❤

THE FALLEN RELEASE DAY BLAST!!

It’s Release Day for THE FALLEN!

At the request of a very awesome reader during the Bitten by Books party last December, I decided that Xander’s story had to be told.  This book is a prequel to Soul Avenged, a spinoff of the Sons of Wrath world, but NOT part of the overarching storyline that spans the series.  I'll caution, this is the first book I've written with a content warning slapped to the front of it.  In most of my books, I imply horrific scenes.  In this book, I'm showing them.  It's not gratuitous violence on my part--all of it is important to understand these characters, both of whom, are a little more complex than they appear on the surface.

I also added the playlist to the front of the book.  As I've mentioned before, music plays a HUGE role in my writing.  My playlist helped me get inside this dark world every morning.  Some songs just seemed to help mold the characters.

To thank my readers for their continued interest in my books, I'm offering The Fallen as a FREE download!  If you’re new to the Sons of Wrath, this is a great opportunity to acquaint yourself with the dark, dangerous fallen angels and demons that dominate the streets of Detroit. Below, you'll find a short excerpt and links to download your free copy.

THE FALLEN

GENRE:  Dark, erotic paranormal romance

Warning:  Not recommended for readers under the age of 18 due to graphic violence, sex and strong language.

To catch the Fallen, you have to become the very evil you were bred to slay.

Show loyalty. Be willing to go deep into the gritty underbelly of the world, where the vilest acts of human carnage thrive and seep into your mind like a black poison, consuming every part of you that was once good. Ignore your dark cravings and keep to the most important rule of all: never save the mortals.

This is the life of a Sentinel.

Some call us the toughest angels in the heavens. Unbreakable. But even the strong can break in the face of temptation.

Human females have always been the forbidden fruit for our kind—an enticement I’ve resisted for centuries, until she came along.

Karinna lusts for vengeance.

She wants inside the darkness, where the Fallen own the corrupted streets of Detroit—the perfect bait to take down the biggest crime ring the city has ever known.

I want her. To have her, though, I’ll have to break the rules.

For one taste of the forbidden, I’ll have to commit the most heinous sin of all …

EXCERPT FROM THE FALLEN

Karinna tugged at his grip, as Xander guided her up a winding staircase and came to a stop in front of a dark wooden door, with deep black grooves, that gave off an ominous warning of bad things on the other side.

He pushed it open.

Awe and horror battled inside her head as she looked around the room. Unlike the relatively normal décor on the first floor, it did look like something out of the serial killer’s edition of Better Homes & Gardens.

Beautiful enough to have her admiring the color scheme.

Terrifying enough to leave her contemplating the quickest exit.

A large steel cross stood atop a thick brown rug, in the center of the room. Chains hung from the ceiling. Paddles and whips of varying size and shape dangled from the wall. A gun safe, in the same shades of beige and brown, stood off to the side, holding God knew what, considering the rest of the interior design.

How very color coordinated.

A dungeon that would bring the most sadistic Dom to his knees in tearful appreciation.

Guiding her inside the room, Xander kept his eyes on her, as though assessing her reaction. After tossing Karinna onto the bed, he crossed the room to the ominous-looking safe and rifled through its contents.

Bolt. Run. The door had been left open. A straight shot. He could be quick, but she’d always been a sprinter. Her tongue thickened, mouth drying as visuals of Texas Chainsaw Massacre passed through her mind. Jesus. What if she picked the wrong door? Would his leather-face doppelganger fly out, swinging?

She had no intentions of finding out what lovely little devices he kept inside that safe, either. Before she could talk herself out of it, she jumped up and made a dead run for the door.

Yeah, she wanted in. Wanted to find the sick sons of bitches who’d hurt her sister. Being tortured and raped had crossed her mind, though the reality of it smacking her in the face didn’t exactly lead her down the path to acceptance. Being alone with a psychopath out in the middle of nowhere never once played into the many ways she’d contemplated getting in the club, for sure.

Shame on her for not having a game-plan for that shit, but c’est la vie, as the saying went, no sense beating herself up over it.

Fuck this.

The steady thud of his boots disappeared to frightening silence.

She glanced over her shoulder, fear strangling her breaths at the long, dark and empty hallway.

A wall of muscle smashed her cheek and knocked her back a step. Out of instinct, Karinna hammered his throat and punched his face, throwing his head to the side.

He growled. Shit. Growled? Only beastly things growled.

Arms gripped around her waist, and he hefted her over his shoulder, as he’d done back at the club. Karinna screamed. As long and as loud as she could, she screamed until the rasp stole her voice.

Now she’d done it. Pissed him off.

Evensong by Krista Walsh

Back in January, one of my good writer friends, Krista Walsh, released Evensong, the first book in her fantasy trilogy.  I had the pleasure of beta reading this beauty sometime last year, and thoroughly enjoyed the story!  Reading about an author was a very cool experience and I felt like I had a lot in common with the MC.  Haha!  Although ... you don't have to be a writer to enjoy this one. Now, as some of you know, I'm a huge fan of music.  I NEEEEEEED music to write.  In fact, if I don't have the right playlist prepared prior to starting a new book, I often find that I cannot connect to the characters.  So music is very important to me.  And I happen to know Krista is a fan of music as well (we often recommend songs back and forth ... in fact, one of her songs listed below is a favorite of mine) so I asked her to offer up her playlist for Evensong.

Before we get to that though, here's some info about Evensong!  Grab this one while it's only 99 cents!

Blurb:

Author Jeff Powell wakes up to find the impossible has happened. He is within his own novel—summoned into the fictional world of Feldall’s Keep by a spell he didn't write. One the House enchantress hasn't figured out how to reverse.

When the villain he's been struggling to write reveals himself, unleashing waves of terror and chaos, Jeff must use more than his imagination to save the characters he created—and the woman he loves.

Trapped within a world of his own creation, he must step outside the bounds of his narrative to help his characters defeat an evil no one anticipated, even if he must sacrifice his greatest gift. In the end, he has to ask: are novels really fiction, or windows into other worlds?

Now on to the playlist!!

Evensong Musical Inspiration

When Keri asked me to offer my top 10 musical inspiration for Evensong I thought it would be easy! I always create a list of songs to listen to while I write. Trouble is, I wrote the first draft of Evensong for NaNoWriMo 2012, so I had to wrack my brain trying to go back in time.

Like my lovely host, a soundtrack is necessary for my writing process. All day I get distracted by the real world: my morning routine, remembering to take out the garbage, remembering to go to work, work, figuring out what to make for dinner … after all of that, it’s difficult to get grounded in the fictional world again. Music helps drown out everything except the words, the characters, the setting.

There’s pretty much no genre of music I don’t enjoy or derive some kind of inspiration, but with the Meratis series, I found myself leaning heavily on Of Monsters and Men. The tone, the lyrics, the whole feel of their album My Head is an Animal fit so well with Jeff’s situation that the two are permanently associated in my mind.

Each book has an OM&M song attached for it. Because I had to pick only one for Evensong, I opted for “From Finner”

Other songs that come to mind:

Artificial Nocturne – Metric

Stadium Love – Metric (went on a bit of a kick last year)

Angel – Massive Attack

Lux Aeterna – Clint Mansell (because I don’t believe anything I can write can ever NOT be inspired by this song)

If There’s a Rocket Tie Me To It – Snow Patrol

Little Lion Man – Mumford & Sons

Pompeii – ES Posthumus (really, this whole album is fantastic to work to. Can’t praise it enough)

Teardrop – Jose Gonzalez

Stubborn Love – The Lumineers

Unnatural Release Day Blast!

UnnRDBB

UNNATURAL RELEASES TODAY!

Unnatural

Release Date For The Fallen!!

I have a release date for The Fallen!!

Man this has been one crazy story.  I can’t believe how quickly it snowballed into the monstrosity that I’ll be publishing in … well, I’ll get to that in a moment.

What I wasn’t expecting, was that this simple little novella—a very light exploration into a side character of the Sons of Wrath series, would turn into a story that I’d absolutely love writing.

Xander is one fucked up guy.  Which means I was all over his character.  And Karinna ... I'll let you tell me what you think of Karinna.  I describe her as a tough, kickass female like Ayden but not as brutal.

When I turned the manuscript over to a writer friend of mine, J.A. Belfield, for a beta read, it sat somewhere around 38,000 words.  Ms. Belfield had some suggestions for me—one of which was, write the story the way it needs to be told.

I’d been so worried about trying to keep this thing to novella length, that I had to cut scenes I loved.  Scenes that made the story and characters so much stronger.  So I followed her advice and now, the book is a whopping 75K.

Yep.  Not really a novella at this point.  More of a short novel.  Hey, ya know?  What did I expect when my novels tend to be about 500 pages??

But it’s still going to be FREE.

If you follow me on Facebook and Twitter, then you know I'm a huge fan of music when I write (cos I post music all the time).  The Fallen has a playlist (all my books have playlists), but each song on this list added something to the story--characters, plot, difficult scenes, the songs provided a whole lotta inspiration, particularly Lola Montez by Volbeat and Beautiful Pain by Eminem and Sia.  And I cannot write Xander without hearing Rob Zombie's Pussy Liquor on endless loop inside my head.  So because the music was such a big part of writing this book and pulling me into this dark world, I did something different this time, by adding the playlist to the front of the book.

Now on to the release date …

Advanced copies will be going out to readers next week.  The book will be available for everyone on APRIL 17TH!!!  Just over two weeks away!!!

In the meantime, add it to your Goodreads shelf:   The Fallen (A Sons of Wrath Novella, #0.5)

Some have asked about paperback copies.  There won't be paperbacks for sale (unless you guys threaten to tie me up and confiscate my chocolate stash for a week) - at least not initially, but I'll have a stock of them for giveaways.  On release day, I'll be giving away a paperback every hour between noon and 5pm.  You'll not have to purchase anything to participate!  More details to come ...

I hope you enjoy the story.  This is a special ‘thank you’ to those of you who’ve stuck with me and continue to support my writing.  Without you and all the likes, shares, follows, recommending the books to others and leaving reviews, I’d never find readers.  Thank you so much❤

NEWS ABOUT SOUL AVENGED!

I’ve got some prrreeeetty exciting news about Soul Avenged ... It’s about to get a makeover.

That’s right, to keep the look of the series consistent, I’m having the cover redesigned by my favorite Cali photographer, David Wagner, who has designed not only Soul Resurrected but will be designing Soul Enslaved as well.

All of the content in Soul Avenged will remain the same so if you have an older version of the book, no worries, the story will not change.

Only the face.

And speaking of faces …

Ayden is going to have a new look as well!

Meet Carla Coates (Carla Harvey as I knew her).

Not only has she worked as an entertainment reporter for the Playboy Channel with a variety of roles in film and TV, and published a comic book that premiered at Comic Con 2011 - (yes, she's an insanely talented artist), she’s also the lead singer of the Butcher Babies AND a former classmate of mine.  Originally from Detroit, Carla moved out to L.A. to pursue her dreams of music and mayhem, proving that you CAN make a living doing what you love.

With all this going on, including an international tour that will have her on the road most of this year, I was a little nervous to ask if she’d like to be the fresh new face of Soul Avenged.  After all, Carla and her co-singer, Heidi, were dubbed the Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock by Revolver Magazine.  She's a hot ticket right now and her fan base keeps growing.  Which ... ahem ... includes me if you care to take a gander at my writing playlists.  I saw her band play last year at The Machine Shop and holy hell they put on one badass show!

(pssst!  Check it out:  Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock )

I was pretty damn thrilled when she said she'd love to!

Carla easily has Ayden’s badass, lycan-slaying, take no shit look.  And I am so excited to feature a Detroit native, the city where the series is set.

So, the deets still need to be worked out, but the photo shoot will happen sometime after Soul Enslaved.  And … for those attending the San Francisco signing next summer, I’ll have a gorgeous batch of books to sign!

WINNER ANNOUNCED!!!!

Okay I’ll just start out by saying this contest was hella crazy. Why?

Last Cover Model Contest, I received about 500 votes, spread out over a two-week period.

This time?

Three times as many!!!  And that was in just 4 days of voting!!  Holy hell, ladies and gents, you were all over these guys!  Ha!  Votes continued to come in up until midnight.

Before I get to the winner (don’t peek!), I want to say thank you to some folks who helped out with this contest and made it a success.

First, to David Wagner, for weeding through all the portfolios submitted for the contest, and narrowing down some smokin’ hot guys.  Damn, they were sexy and I’d have never stumbled upon them without David’s help.  Authors, seriously, check out David’s cover work.  He’s so easygoing, fun to collaborate with AND he has connections to some truly stunning men!

Second, to the four gorgeous candidates – Mickael, Rafael, Daniel and Jason.  Thanks so much for possessing superior genetics and making this contest an absolute blast!  If I could’ve squeezed all four of you onto the cover, I would have!

Third, to my pimps … all the kickass bloggers who helped me spread the word, enormous thanks to each and every one of you!!

And finally, to my readers, thank you for helping me choose the model for Gavin’s book!  I love the fact that you all play a role in my stories – a huge role, since a story’s cover is what draws a reader.  Thanks to you, Gavin now has a (very) handsome face—one I shall drool over, I mean, muse over as I finish writing his book.  If you opted in for it, your name will be included in a Special Contributors page of Soul Enslaved just for stopping in to vote!

Okay, now for the WINNERS of the Rafflecopter giveaway!!!

The TWO winners of a $50 Amazon giftcard, Sons of Wrath Property of Gavin t-shirt and swag are:

SIERRA MCBRIDE

HOLLY COLLINS

The FIVE winners chosen to receive an eARC of The Fallen (publishing in April) are:

STEPHANIE FREDRICK

CYNTHIA B. CLUBBS

MICHELE AVERY

NENA MF

BOBBI-VAUGHN READER

I’ll be emailing all winners with the details!!

Now that we have all that sorted … are you ready to see which drool-worthy candidate YOU chose??

I’m so very excited ….

Very very excited ….

Thrilled to announce that the incredibly sexy

DANIEL SOBIERAY

will represent the face of Gavin for Soul Enslaved!!!

Le swoon!  That wicked smile!  Those beautiful eyes!  That chiseled physique!  Daniel will make one fine-looking Wrath demon … very happy to have him on the cover!

And I had the pleasure of chatting with David this afternoon, brainstorming ideas to make this cover hot hot hot!!  So you’re in for a treat, ladies … as you know, Gavin has his own style and it’ll surely come through in the design we’re planning.

If your guy didn’t happen to win this particular cover—and I’m asking that all voters please be respectful to all candidates in the contest—you still played an enormous role by getting to know the character, spreading the word and taking the time to cast your vote.  And for that, I’m incredibly grateful!  There will more opportunities throughout this series for all of you to own a part of my stories.

So when is Soul Enslaved coming??

I’m working on Gavin’s story as we speak.  I will keep you updated as it gets closer to publication!

In the meantime, I’ll be publishing a FREE short erotic novel, titled The Fallen.  That will come out sometime in April and is the story of Xander, the fallen angel in the Sons of Wrath series.  This book is a standalone and NOT part of overarching story that spans the series.  Keep an eye out for that!

Thanks so much for reading <3

COVER REVEAL: Emergence by K.L. Schwengel

Happy Monday!  Today I have a treat!  A writer bud of mine will soon be releasing the second book in her Darkness & Light series and today is the cover reveal!  I had the pleasure of beta reading this beauty and I can tell you, if you're a fan of fantasy, you'll want to nab this one.  The writing is superb, with well-developed characters that you can't help but fall in love with.  *sigh* Bolin .... So, without further delay, here is the cover for EMERGENCE, book two in the Darkness & Light series by K.L. Schwengel:

BLURB:

The battle for Ciara's power has drawn the full attention of the Emperor and the Imperial Mages, forcing Bolin to put duty above safety and take her to Nisair. It won't be an easy trip, even with an Imperial escort and a Galysian elder accompanying them. Especially since Donovan has found himself some new allies, one of who wields a dark magic that has literally gotten under Bolin's skin.

For Ciara, coming to terms with the increasingly tangible manifestation of her power could destroy her. Even if they make it to Nisair--something that grows more unlikely by the day--there is no surety of safety for Ciara, or any of them. Not with Donovan willing to gamble everything to achieve his goals, or Bolin's uncharacteristically reckless behavior, the result of which is the attention of something that has everyone worried.

Loyalties will be tested, lives will be lost, and no one will emerge unchanged as they find things are not always so clear on the line dividing Darkness and Light.

About the Author:

K. L. Schwengel lives in southeast Wisconsin on a small farm with her husband, a handful of Australian Shepherds, Her Royal Highness Princess Fiona the Cat, and assorted livestock. Growing up as the youngest of nine children, and the daughter of a librarian, Kathi spent many hours between stacks of books, and secluded away in dusty archives, drawn to tales of medieval heroes and conquering knights. With so many characters and ideas spinning in her head, she had to get them onto paper or risk what little sanity she possessed. She has been penning wild tales of magic and mayhem as long as she can remember, but opted to follow her artistic muse first. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts and spending many years working as a freelance artist, grocery clerk, art teacher, graphic designer, stable hand, advertising account coordinator, dog trainer, and process technician (among other things) she answered the call of her writing muse. When not writing, Kathi trains and trials working Australian Shepherds, still paints, dabbles in photography, graphic design, and anything else creative her assorted muses send her way.

Kathi's work is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, and other on-line retailers in both paperback and e-book versions. Signed copies are available via her blog.

Cover Reveal: THE FALLEN

It's here!!! Man, I've been DYING to show this sucker off!  As I've mentioned in previous posts, at the request of a very awesome reader during the Bitten by Books party, I decided that Xander's story had to be told.  This book will be a prequel to Soul Avenged, a spinoff of the Sons of Wrath world, but NOT part of the overarching storyline that spans the series.

It can be read as a standalone.

I'm labeling this an erotic novel based on the content.  Yes, I said NOVEL because when I set out to write a NOVELLA, it just doesn't work.  This book is looking to be 60K words--short for me, but still considered a novel.  Therefore, I'm dubbing it a short novel.  Ha!

Even though it's longer than I originally planned, it's still going to be FREE.  There will NOT be paperback copies available for purchase, but if you're signed up to my VIP email list, there will be opportunities to WIN a signed paperback!  Get signed up today and you'll be able to view ALL FOUR candidates in the Cover Model Contest for Soul Enslaved and vote for the two finalists!!  A special perk for all my wonderful email subscribers.

As I've said before, this is the first time I've had to slap a warning on the book based on content. In all fairness though, this is Xander we're talking about.  If you've read Soul Resurrected, you know he's a character who kind of walks a very fine line between good and baaaaaaaad.  He was not originally created to be a hero.

You've been warned.

Huge thanks to my ridiculously talented brother, Ryan, for the design of this cover.

If you could share this post to get it out there in the blogosphere, I would be incredibly grateful! ❤

Okay, enough of the blah blah blah.  Without further delay, allow me to present, THE FALLEN (A Sons of Wrath Prequel):

The_Fallen_Prequel

The_Fallen_Prequel

BLURB:

An exact release date for this book has not yet been determined but will likely be April 2014!!  In the meantime, add it to your Goodreads shelf:

It’s that time again!

Pull out your drool bibs, stock up on batteries, shine your computer screens and slip into something comfortable cos it's about to get steamy!

The next book in my Sons of Wrath series is Soul Enslaved (Sons of Wrath #3),  and I decided that, since the first Cover Model Contest was so much fun, why not let readers choose the face of Gavin’s book?

Add SOUL ENSLAVED to your Goodreads shelf:

ADD SOUL ENSLAVED

Anyone who’s read previous SoW books, knows the eldest Wrath brother carries a certain air about him.  Like one reader said to me, “… a man who looks like he can kick your ass and turn you inside out, then adjust his Armani 3-PC like nothing happened.”

I'm not even gonna lie ... I was nervous trying to find a face for his book.  My Pinterest boards were going wild for a while there--like I was subconsciously hoping to mash all the Gavin inspiration together and pinpoint the right guy.

For those who might be new to this CMC thang, you’re in for a treat!  The last Cover Model Contest was tons of fun.

Check it out: COVER MODEL CONTEST 2013

This time, I had some help recruiting these guys.  Huge thanks to the awesomely awesome David Wagner for weeding through nearly 500 candidates and pulling out the best of the best for our beloved Gavin.  I’ll tell you what—I thought it was tough going through all those pics for Logan’s book, but take a well-established and respected photographer’s casting call and you end up with massive sensory overload.

Perfectly carved muscles*~*~*~Chiseled jaws*~*~*~Gorgeous eyes

And some of those poses are just … le purrr.

I should've been a photographer.

I can’t even begin to tell you how f**king excited I am right now!!   Four sexy candidates are on board for this contest and I'd take any one of them for Gavin's book.  Good thing I don't have to choose because every one of them have drool-worthy features. In fact, I wish I could just put all of them on a cover, titled Four Smokin' Hot Guys on a Cover.

No story needed--no one would get past the cover anyway.

So what’s next??

The contest is going to be slightly different this time around.

Readers who are signed up for my VIP Email List are going to get a profile on each of the candidates I have in the pool.  THEY will get to drool over each entry and choose the TWO finalists.

Once the two finalists are chosen, I’ll post the voting booth, just like last time, for everyone to vote for the best man who will represent Gavin in Soul Enslaved.

Not yet signed up?  No problem!  Just click the link below, enter your email address and voila!  You’re in!

YOU WANT to be in, not only for the contest, but also because my email subscribers will get coupons for my books.  And I won't flood your inbox with a bunch of spam either--unless you consider half-naked men with muscled bodies like Spartan warriors to be spam.

In that case, don't sign up.

When is the next Cover Model Contest??

Email subscribers will receive a password to view and vote for the TWO finalists on February 26th – March 2nd.

Everyone will have the chance to vote:

March 6th – 9th  -- ONLY 3 DAYS!!

I will announce the winner on March 11th

A cool little swag pack AND a $50 Amazon gift card are up for grabs!

PLUS …

FIVE winners will be awarded e-ARCs of my upcoming erotic novella, The Fallen!
